Café Müller was originally the title of a four-part evening, whose premiere took place 40 years ago, on the 20th of May 1978. In addition to the choreography by Pina Bausch, which is still regularly performed today, this evening originally comprised work by Gerhard Bohner, Gigi-Gheorghe Caciuléanu and Hans Pop, who on invitation by Pina Bausch collaborated with the ensemble in 1978.
In November 2018, on occasion of Café Müller’s 40th anniversary, and in conjunction with the performance series of the piece by Tanztheater Wuppertal, the Pina Bausch Foundation presents an exhibition at the former Schauspielhaus Wuppertal.
The exhibition will include unpublished photographs and video footage from the Pina Bausch archive, with examples from the three additional, mostly unknown choreographies. In this framework, the foundation would like to create an opportunity for all visitors to evoke memories and gain new insights into one of Pina Bausch’s most famous works.
You are cordially invited to join the Foundation for the opening of the exhibition on the 2nd of November from 5 PM. The premiere of the double bill Café Müller / Das Frühlingsopfer takes place at the Opera House Wuppertal afterwards.
Many thanks to the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch for their support.
